On the eve of the closing ceremony of the year-long golden jubilee celebrations of Haryana state in Hisar, residents have urged chief minister Manohar Lal and sports minister Anil Vij to enhance the seating capacity of Mahabir Stadium in Hisar further.
Mangali village residents and football players have high expectations from sports minister Anil Vij that he will make an announcement for a well-equipped football stadium in the village. The village has a rich tradition of producing junior international footballers from the area. In October 2014, Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Mangali, 11km from Hisar, had won the 55th Subroto Cup football tournament (U-17) at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi. Many teenagers of the team have gone on to play for India in various age group tournaments.
The village has bare minimum facilities but it has continuously produced national–level footballers. We have a qualified coach and the government land is also available in the village. The government had promised to start a nursery in the school and build a stadium in the village. Sports promoter Yograj Sharma said since Hisar region has a great following in hockey and the district has produced many international women hockey players, the seven-acre Hockey Astroturf Stadium should be built on the lines of Major Dhyan Chand National Hockey Stadium in New Delhi. The construction work of the stadium has been hanging fire since a long time.
The yearlong golden jubilee celebrations of Haryana state will conclude with a closing ceremony at the Mahabir Stadium here today.
The celebrations began with an opening ceremony at Gurugram on November 1, 2016. Various sports events including a national youth festival, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay kabbadi championship and Bharat Kesari dangal were organized during the yearlong celebrations.
